Lania, Warrior of the Nurmi, never expected to save a Lionian councilman, but, far from regretting it, she finds a common bond with her old master. She knows Aurion has a part to play as the Lionian Sovereignty fights on several fronts, but she cannot be sure if that will pit him with or against her. As she grows close to Aurion, she prays it will be with her.

​When a new threat marches against Lione, Aurion and Lania seek to steer their uncertain future, taking on both invaders and defenders, including the Lionian sovereign himself. Their search for a world where their peoples can live side by side takes them to the brink of disaster: Lania wants to see Lione burn, but Aurion seeks to save it. Trapped between duty and love by their entangled fates, neither can escape unscathed.
